INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

AN SHF SOLUTION TO THE NEED FOR TRAINED HOSPICE PROFESSIONALS

Doctors, nurses, social workers, nurse assistants, music therapists, spiritual care and other professionals within the healthcare industry need access to the growing body of knowledge about hospice and palliative care. Limited resources and a curriculum that has true professional development impact are all challenges related to educating the greater healthcare continuum about end of life care. Seasons Hospice Foundation (SHF) has partnered with Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care (SHPC) to create the Seasons Hospice Foundation Internship Program in order to improve the quality of end of life care across the United States.

At Seasons Hospice Foundation, we strive to offer uniquely rewarding internship experiences, including the opportunity to intern on the ground with SHPC locations across the country. Talk to our interns, and you will find that they are treated as an integral part of the interdisciplinary patient care teams at SHPC. We recognize that their contributions are valuable, and include them in the same meetings and consultations as SHPC employees, giving them the opportunity to learn from experienced staff while also providing their own unique insight. Our interns are given training to develop their clinical skills while being exposed to a variety of clinical diagnoses, and many are taught electronic documentation under the close supervision of a staff member.

SHF offers internship opportunities in several areas including art therapy, bereavement, chaplaincy, music therapy, and social work. We are proud of the role we play in training students to understand and care for patients facing life-limiting illnesses, and consider an internship a success if an intern leaves feeling as if they were treated as a valued, equal part of the SHF and SHPC teams. Our long-term goal is to extend our outreach to educational institutions across the country as well as to seek donors to sustain and grow this most worthwhile program.
